There are two key components to CBD skin care: one is the CBD; the other is the skin care! It’s important to do your due diligence before buying a product with CBD in it to ensure you’re choosing one that is using quality ingredients. Likewise, anyone can add CBD, but does the skin care really work? Read on to learn about what to look for to find the best CBD skin care products. The good news is that it is possible!

What to Look for in the Best CBD

The hot ingredient du jour—CBD—is finding its way into more skin care lines, among other beauty and wellness consumer products. Interested in trying it, but confused about what’s good and what’s not? Let’s break it down simply…

Quality CBD comes from hemp plants that are grown and processed in the USA. If a product contains CBD from China, it is likely cheap, low-quality CBD that may not have gone through the same regulations as a U.S. grown product. To go another step further, you could seek out the farming and manufacturing practices of the brand and/or farms where the CBD comes from.

What’s more, a key indicator of a quality CBD product is that the brand or manufacturer has its batches of hemp oil checked by a third party. If it does, it will likely have those lab reports listed on its website for consumers to easily review. These third-party tests validate the accuracy of the product’s claims. For example, that it is THC-free if it says it is. The lab tests can also check for things like contaminants in the CBD.

When buying a beauty product, look for one of the following words or phrases in the ingredients list. (Refer to the ingredient list on the back of the packaging, not the copy on the front of the packaging when doing so.) These indicate there’s actual CBD in the formula: CBD, hemp CBD, broad-spectrum hemp extract, cannabidiol-rich broad spectrum hemp oil, full-spectrum hemp oil, hemp extract, hemp oil or hemp extract oil. Those are all synonyms for CBD.

What is not CBD? Hemp seed oil…the “seed” indicates it is not CBD. (Read more about hemp oil vs hemp seed oil here.)

What to Look for in the Best CBD Skin Care Products

CBD is a wonderful ingredient to seek out for your skin. Among its many touted benefits include its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties (see our piece on “Is CBD an Antioxidant?”).  We are obviously huge fans of this powerhouse ingredient. However, it is not the be all and end all of your skin care products. It is very important when selecting the best CBD skin care to also look at the other ingredients.

Do they work for your skin type? Are there other tried-and-true hydrators and antioxidants? What do the products do? What do you want them to do? You must first and foremost select great beauty products, and then the quality CBD is the icing on the cake.

Also look for skin care products that are cruelty-free—in this day and age of advanced science, there’s absolutely no need for animal testing. And select conscientious brands that don’t include harsh chemicals and known toxins such as phthalates and parabens.

In the case of KARIBO beauty products, you’ll find a quality, affordable line chockfull of beautiful moisturizers and antioxidants that focus on hydrating, plumping and smoothing out fine lines.
