So everyone knows THC, tetrahydrocannabinol. It was first discovered in 1964 in Raphael Mechoulam's lab in Israel. And it was about the same time the Beetles were first being exposed to cannabis themselves and it was the 60s and so voila. This is the chemical that's causing all the effects of marijuana is what people thought.

Before that time people had not been able, scientists had not been able to find this one abundant compound. They couldn't isolate it. They couldn't dictate the chemical structure of it. They found other compounds called cannabinoids in cannabis. But THC was the big find and a 32-year-old scientist discovered it and, you know, made his, launched an illustrious career.

But it turns out that THC is not the only game in town in marijuana or in cannabis, and is not the only extremely useful compound in cannabis. And for that you have to look at CBD. CBD stands for cannabidiol, CBD. It's basically a structural isomer of THC. What that means to say is THC and CBD have the same chemical composition but the atoms are just arranged just a little bit differently. In fact, there's a ring that opens and closes. If that ring is closed it's THC, if that ring is open it's CBD. And you can actually in a flask convert between one and the other with just a little bit of acid. And, you know, any organic chemist out there will know what I'm talking about.

So that CBD compound we've actually known about for longer than THC but it's only in the last few decades that we've begun to appreciate how useful it is both in helping to modulate the effects of THC and as a unique compound itself. It has antiseizure properties. It has pain relieving properties. It has anticancer properties. It blunts the worst effects of THC itself when it's coadministered. So people talk about dissociative effect with THC. People talk about a anxiogenic effect. When you put CBD in there it actually helps to mitigate those effects. And that's been shown in studies where they go out in the field and they test what types of marijuana people have and the ones that have CBD in them people report improved, less of those negative symptoms I've described. And that's also been seen in animal studies and on and on.

Some groups have even called for just adding CBD into cancer chemotherapy regimens and these are cancer research groups. CBD has been also hailed as a treatment to prevent diabetic neuropathy which is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. It protects nerves. And this is all from a little compound, set of compounds that this cannabis plant naturally produces. Some strains have higher amounts of THC and low amounts of CBD. Some strains have low amounts THC and high amounts of CBD and some are in between somewhere. And that's all part of the genetic diversity and chemical diversity of cannabis.

  1. ⚠️ Hello my dear viewer ⚠️
Perhaps it has come to your attention, a very IMPORTANT petition is currently underway. The EU wants to ban #CBD! Please sign the petition on #cbdlegal #cbdisfood
This goes to ????AFFECT ALL OF US ????Whoever uses CBD, will soon no longer be allowed to do so without a prescription – whoever does not use it – will still be charged by the health insurance companies. If it becomes a “prescription only” drug, it will be very expensive!
Please include this in your blogs, newsletters and write social posts about it, or help the campaign financially! ⬇️
"Affected are those who produce, distribute or want to BUY CBD, CBD-oil or hemp extracts, because now it is now illegal in food products all over Europe and in the individual countries the companies that are affected are punished with partially high penalties.

  2. 0.87% THC in the state the flower is in, the rest of the THC is at that point THCa, a carboxylic acid group is attached to the THC molecule. What this means if you were to just eat that bud, only 0.87% of it is psychoactive in that state.

Upon decarboxilation, usually via heat, that group is stripped off the rest of the molecules and if conversion of every molecule of THCa to THC were to happen, then it would have accounted for 18.9% of the original mass.

For a vast majority of people the Total THC is the relevant number, and the other can be ignored. In some US states they make it even more confusion by doing a listing of THC, THCa and Total THC, and since THCa weighs more than THC people get very confused that the THC + THCa doesn't equal total THC.

  3. Lies. They used cannabis for centuries cannabis didn’t become a big deal until 60s back when the government was experimenting with drugs oh what a wonderful time I never got to live..

  4. Cheers for the Video! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about – Raouzgoldie Remove Habit Release (google it)? It is an awesome one off product for giving up smoking weed without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my cousin at last got cool success with it.

  6. I think this is great news, because I have mental and physical health problems. Actually it has only one side effect: munchies (feeling hungry as hell after consuming it), at least this is what has been told by friends using it.
Now, doctors can' t cure lots of diseases, and lots of people have indigestion, and cannot eat or drink lots of things (like me and certain friends in other countries), because of these illnesses, and it' s causing us bad things to happen in body due to side effects of lots of medication. I have been on many meds in my life, and I can say antidepressants almost only have side effects, and you cannot wake up to go to toilet in time. The mental illness part made me to see and imagine great phrases of imagery for my poems, so I wonder what would it be with marihuana.
In the past they have said homeopathy is bad, and I' m using it, and it helps.
I' ve only not tried marihuana because you can only get it here with cigarettes, and I can' t smoke because I' m apt to have asthma.

Anyway, you know what is bad for development of personality?
Being beaten in broad daylight in city centre and humiliated in bus for 3 months, and noone helps, and your attackers follow you, and then you go to police/psychologists, who say that nothing can be done! This happened with me.
General indifference and being ego-driven are the enemies.

  7. I started smoking it when I was 14. Went on to uni and now have kids, happily married, have a $ 100K+ per year job as a Datacenter Systems Consultant . I have not fallen ill since then, Wake up like a baby every morning ( If I have not had any alcohol) I feel I am mentally and emotionally more stable than my peers. I am 31 today, In the last 17 years I have yet to see the harmful effects of the plant. Please help me.
Oh and my best friend / we used to smoke up together (Yes at 14) , and we still do when we meet. He is a doctor and has completed his fellowship from UK last year. Most of the normal people don't go that far in education. I know of so many high ranking officials etc who regularly use cannabis. Anthony, you are just like my wife. Narcissistic Sociopath !! with deep rooted issues of your own so  my advise to you —  take your comments up your bum as they are all rubbish.

  8. Anthony taylor, I DO agree with most of the stuff you're saying. I have felt a little unhealthy sometimes after smoking…. I do so when I'm out n about leisurely, I do think it's way better than alcohol though and I do think it does have medicinal benefits for those who need it….. I think you gotta b responsible when smoking and not let it take over your life 🙂 better than booze !!!!!!!
